My boyfriend of 2 years had a Methodist upbringing, and still attends church. We live together and have been having sex since the start of our relationship. He has never felt that this was wrong in anyway, and his Methodist friends (aged 20 – 25) apparently feel the same way. I once asked him if he felt that us having sex was against his religion, and he told me that the Methodists are ‘liberal about that sort of thing’. I’ve noticed that a lot of gay people posting to this column identify themselves as ‘Methodist’. I would like to know what the ‘official’ Methodist attitude towards pre-marital sex, homosexuality etc are, and does it tally with what my boyfriend told me?
