As an Employment Services Worker I have found that many Vietnamese immigrants speak very little English but may have family or friends who own a Nail Salon business. You do not have to speak English to do this job. A bi-lingual receptionist states the client’s request and no other verbal communication is necessary and they can make above minimum wage. I have also learned that English is a very difficult language to learn for Vietnamese people because their language is so ‘tonal’. Their words can sound the same to Americans but a slight change in ‘tone’ will give the word a different meaning.
