[Ed-State]

Although my girlfriend is agnostic, she comes from a Jewish family, and recently told me that if we had a child it would be Jewish because it ‘comes from the mother’s side.’ Being an agnostic myself, I was really taken aback. Are other (all) religions like this? Can a belief system be automatically passed on? Is God heredatery? I have nothing against any religion, and would want my child to be any, or none if they so choose… but I think ‘rules’ like these are just plum silly. Am i wrong?
