ErickaParticipantMy husband is black and his family celebrates the Fourth like any other family I’ve met. In fact, it’s almost more important because it’s the only time everyone gets back together.

SteveParticipantMy family and friends all celebrate our nation’s independence. We don’t do it in the manner that some may but we do go to the local parade, cook out, and have a good time watching fireworks. Maybe it’s because I come from a military family but we see ourselves as Americans too. By the way, I also celebrate Juneteenth. Guess I have the best of both worlds.

TJParticipantInteresting, I thought Slavery started long before America won its independence. I know of turkish, European, Moors, etc.. Galley slaves on ships sailed by both The Moors and the Spainish. My ancestors are a blend of those slaves.
