I-SinghMemberHow do Muslims feel when they hear about another terrorist attack orchestrated by Muslim fundamentalists, e.g., as is going on now in the Philippines? Do they cringe, do they secretly believe that sort of activity is sanctioned by their religion, or do they oppose it? If they oppose it, would the opposition be in conformance with Islam, or against it?

Steve27680MemberAn interesting complimentary question would be; ‘Do Caucasians feel guilt when one of their kind does a horrible crime?’ I know that I secrectly was very ashamed that the Oklahoma City bombers were middle class white males like myself. I cringe whenever there is another serial killer caught because they inevitably are white, male, and ‘quiet guys living next door’, which adequate describes me as well.

YehiaMemberIt’s unfair to say that terrorism is an Islamic invention; before Muslims, there was Hitler and other terrorist groups. Terrorism is a reaction to certain circumstances people do not like, regardless of their religion. What some Muslims do by using force and guns is not allowed in Islam. There is a text in the Quran that defines the kind of relationship between Muslims and non-Muslims; it says that every non-Muslim is a human being having the full rights of humanity, and he should be treated with justice and equality, on one condition: That he is not an enemy of Muslims and does not threaten their religion and their land. The problem for Muslims now is to show the world their right face – and make people trust that Islam is a religion of peace.

YasmiynMemberI’m Muslim, and if you mean by terrorism killing, torturing or any kind of oppression of innocent unarmed men, women or children, then of course no Muslim would condone that, nor is that sanctioned in our religion. What is sanctioned in our religion is fighting to protect our religion if there is a goverment or people stopping us from practicing our religion. All over the world, Muslims are being slaughtered, maimed and tortured simply because they want to practice their religion. If that is the case, we can defend ourselves and fight to practice our religion. It amazes me that every act of Muslim fighting or rebellion is labeled terrorism without the facts being investigated about how the people are being treated. Yet when the United States bombs or goes to war against anyone, it’s labeled as ‘saving or protecting the free world, protecting democracy or liberating a people.’
