This will come across as ruthlessly insensitive, I know. Many people with handicaps have special licenses to drive. I worry that there are some handicaps that slow reaction time, and thus create a danger to other drivers on the road. Most drivers do not pay enough attention and respond to sudden situations quickly enough to prevent accidents, and it seems to me that some handicaps may make it physically impossible to respond as quickly as drivers should be able to. I am all for accomodating those who have the sensory and physical skills to drive safely, but don’t believe others should be put in a more dangerous situation to provide an accomodation.
