I have a fair-sized red birthmark on my face, near my nose, and have always wanted to know how others really feel about it. Do you think they are ugly? Do you pity people with them? Do you worry about touching them?

My mom also had a large freckled area from a burn that covered one side of her neck up to her jawbone. It happened when she was a young child, but it wasn’t until I was in my 20s that she said it had made her self-conscious when she was younger. I had never really noticed it; it was just part of her features, like the color of her eyes or hair. I don’t find a birthmark like yours repellent at all. If you are a vibrant, happy person, people will be attracted to you regardless of what unusual features you possess.

I don’t think twice about them. I knew a girl with a birthmark that covered her face. We didn’t think anything of it.

Sure, most people notice it at first. For some people, they find it unattractive. But unless there is an intention to consider dating, even those people forget about it eventually. A person with a love interest will quickly look past it. As a person with considerable scarring due to youthful acne, I can tell you success for you will come from your heart, not your looks. I had little difficulty finding girlfriends before I married a wonderful women. Don’t worry, be good.

I dated a guy with a red birthmark on his face. I have to admit, while it bothered me when I first met him, after I knew him for a while, I quit seeing it. I wouldn’t visualize him with it, and wouldn’t notice it unless he blushed, because then his face was all one color. It didn’t bother me to touch it, because it just felt like skin. It’s a little different, but it’s not bad.
