90s and 00s One theme of the 1990s or at least at the beginning of the 90s was Grunge. Grunge went beyond Seattle/WA and Alternative youth culture, it reflected the end of Generation X. Generation X is a gen. of people who grew up latch key, TV baby-sat, single parent…etc.. They grew up in a tougher time which later reflected a non materialistic view when they came into their late teens and 20s (thus inter playing with downplayed fashion and liking of grunge music) who enjoy living through arts for example, in not carefing for the ‘yuppie’ culture. They didn’t care to have expensive designer clothes( vintage played a big part ). Flanel ( common in the Pacific Northwest ) was no longer hick wear. Notable bands included Mudhoney, Nirvana, and PearlJam. Kurt Cobain of Nirvana was the voice of the last GenX teens/early 90s. The more underground alternative later influenced being from the late 70s and 80s, ie hardcore/aggro electronic music which became big in the 90s, was know as Detriot Techno/Techno( such as England’s Prodigy), their culture was known as Ravers. Yet, the electronic music was just a 2nd wave of electronica culture. Another, yet very mainstream culture of the 90s, was the R&B culture. Many sub-cultures influenced the 90s but Grunge is due for a music and fashion comeback. 2000s So far the 00’s have seen the almost end of new metal,R&B, A softer version of Punk w/some 60s Velvet Underground flavor, and lots of Country and pop! As far as fashion the 80s and early 90s seem to be in favor as well as the R&B culture remains a mainstay with youth. Can you predict what may be next?
