SadeliMemberI have been told that the Koran does not specifically state that pork should not be consumed. Is this true? If it is true, then why do Muslims say that according to the Koran pork must not be consumed? If is not true, then what is the relevant passage in the Koran?

Frank21703MemberAs Islam is a continuation from the Jewish faith (Mohammad being the prophet who founded the faith), Muslims remain kosher in the same manners as Jews. The Koran builds on the Torah.

ZERO24237MemberMuslims are told in the Quran not to eat pork or pork products, meat of the animals who died before being slaughtered or the carnivorous animals (as they eat dead animals), nor drink blood or intoxicants such as wine or use any illicit drugs. Refer to Quran Chapter 2 verse 173: ‘Believers, eat from the good things that We have given you and give thanks to God if you worship only Him (2:172). God has forbidden you to eat that which has not been properly slaughtered, blood, pork and the flesh of any animal which has not been consecrated with a mention of the Name of God. However, in an emergency, without the intention of transgression or repeating transgression, one will not be considered to have committed a sin. God is All-forgiving and All-merciful (2:173).

CadMemberGenerally, the impression I have from a very short research on the Internet is that the main reason Muslim people do not consume pork is that it is considered a dirty, disease carrying animal. It could be argued that this is due to the fact that the Quran was written at a time when disease was more widespread and difficult to deal with, but that is not the issue, right?
