Almost everytime I meet an Anglo/Caucasian person, usually one who’s middle-aged or older, who finds out I’m an American Indian, they claim to be ‘part Cherokee’ or that their grandmother was a ‘Cherokee princess’. I never get this response from people of other ethnicities. I’m skeptical that they’re all being truthful about their heritage, yet I don’t want to be rude and ask them to prove it. It bothers be because it almost seems like a running inside joke. Can anyone offer any insight or explaination?
