J-GarciaMemberWhy is it homophobic to believe there are some situations in which heterosexuals have a right to insist gays or lesbians be excluded? It is my belief that homosexuality is not a choice, but a genetic result. It is also not an ‘alternate lifestyle.’ It is an unfortunate aberration like other genetic disabilities. I embrace the right of ‘outed’ gay people to compete in the marketplace, side-by-side with their straight colleagues, with two or three exceptions, e.g., military basic training and the teaching profession up through middle school. I have worked for and respected a gay boss, and I have served on the boards of several arts organizations and count a number of gay individuals among my coterie of friends.

Hero21313MemberYou mention teaching as one of the professions that you do not think gays should be able to work in. Why? If you think it is because they could encourage kids to ‘become’ homosexual, you must be nuts. You have already stated that you think it is down to genetics, not choice. If you believe gay people shouldn’t teach because they might try to have sexual relations with the children, then you must be even more nuts. In that case, why should straight males be allowed to teach girls, and vice versa? Also (I should have said this first, but no matter), we are talking about gay people here, not pedophiles, which I trust you realize are two different things completely. As for the ‘no gays in the military’ thing – why shouldn’t there be? I admit there is a problem with sleeping arrangements. As there are separate dorms for men and women, some people would want to have separate accommodations for gay people. However, other than that, why should gay people be excluded, as they are no different in other ways, apart from their sexuality? Also, I do not think you are right in saying that homosexuality is a genetic disability.
