Jessica-C30830ParticipantI am adopting a child and have been told many times that biracial children are harder to place. I was told this is because neither race really accepts this child as its own. Why is this? (Director’s Note: Y? would prefer this question be answered by a person who has a biracial child, has adoption placement service experience or who has studied this matter.)

HollyMemberI have a friend who was adopted into a biracial family. In an ironic and unplanned way, he, too, was biracial. I’ve never seen it as a problem for him. He and his family are very accepted, appreciated and loved by many. Most have gotten past the point of being racist, and if not, do not stick their noses into business like it, since it is such a controversial question. Do not be afraid. No matter your skin, all they need is love, and if you show it to them, all they’ll know is love. I’ve never seen our church members even look down on it.

SaraMemberI’m an adoption caseworker. We encourage adopting biracial children, becasue they are the majority right now. However, we’ve found that to have a ‘happy family,’ parents that adopt biracial children should have friends and/or family member of each of the races that are in the childs make up. This has been very successful for many of our families.
