I recently asked a friend whose Catholic about where it is written that Mary ascended into heaven. He said, quite emphatically, that this information is in the Bible, but he didn’t know the chapter or verse. Later, he confessed that he has never read the Bible; he was just going based on what he had been taught in catechism. I just finished reading the Bible, and although I skipped a few Old Testament books, I know for a fact that there is nothing written about Mary ascending into heaven. Yet, this seems to form the basis of Catholic dogma. Why do Catholics believe this about Mary? And why doesn’t it seem as if the Bible is as emphasized as it is in Protestant sects?
