I worked with an African-American woman who always referred to her husband as ‘baby daddy’. At the Company picnic, I had to ask her husband what his name was because she introduced him as ‘baby daddy’. He’s obviously an important person to her, or she wouldn’t have married him. Why not call him by his name? Where I am from, this type of introduction would be an insult to the person introduced in such a manner. Am I reacting to a cultural difference when I become offended for the person?
