I hope this question is taken in the spirit in which it's delivered, which is out of genuine curiosity: I recently saw a black woman on TV who was upset that she didn't have enough money for food, but at the same time it appeared that she had had a very expensive nail job. Why would she spend the money on this instead of necessities? Does it have to do with maintaining self-esteem?
