As society moves quicker, there will be less dating and mating. What you hear is more talk than action! So, no need to worry.

I was just wondering why these days it is so shocking to hear that someone in college is still a virgin. I am a sophomore in college and still a virgin, by choice. Of course I have gone out with a lot of guys and experimented in other ways, yet this is the one thing I want to be special when I do find the right guy. Is it so wrong to still be a virgin, and does this turn off or intimidate men?

'Is it so wrong to still be a virgin, and does this turn off or intimidate men?' It's definitely not wrong-amazed that you'd ask that. For many men being the first and only is still a turn-on. Child of the 60s that I was, I experimented in the sexual revolution of that era , but married a virgin. That was 20 some years ago and it lasted. Part of her appeal was definitely her lack of sexual experience.

There are probably more college-aged virgins than you think, Elizabeth. Most of us tend to hide that fact because we don't want people to know we're 'untouched.' Virginity these days seems to be considered disgusting, which is odd, because traditionally, unwed non-virgins (especially women) were shunned by society.

I'm also a sophomore in college and am still a virgin - by choice, of course. I doesn't bother me that I'm a still a virgin. I just want to find the perfect woman; then I will be happy. I don't see a problem with being a virgin. I also don't believe the "sex after marriage" part. If you are ready, then you are ready. I think that's just an ethics thing.

Speaking only for me personally, virginity brings up questions as to why? Then, why me? And then what is expected afterward. If you have maintained your virginity into college, it is probably a sacred thing to you. Whether it is religious, personal ethic, or simply personal interest (or even some other reason), it generates a values question. To then offer it to someone after you have kept it sacred for so long, brings on questions of my worth to you and what this means about your expectations in our relationship. There is also the consideration of making your first time all that you had hoped for. I would hope that whoever is your first takes that into deep consideration. Sex should be special, but it is extremely special in those cases.

Elizabeth, stick to your convictions. You may not believe this, but, you will gain greater respect from someone worthy. An old adage,'Men want to date whores, but marry virgins'. This is not very complementery to men, but there is some truth here. This should be a non-issue with you and others like you. You are strong women that are highly desireable in our society.

Actually, if I recall college, virginity was not considered a turn-off but a turn on. To some college guys (and sadly, to some post-college adolescents) the concept of becoming the one and only person to penetrate a woman, being an unchallenged 'Best she ever had,' is an alluring concept. So, it is important to make clear to such guys that you do not plan on losing your virginity. Then, you'll know that those men who still wish to stick with you truly like you for who you are. A lot of women don't have the option of having that assurance, and in that sense, you should consider yourself fortunate.

There is a hidden secret in our society; men actually desire virgin women for wives. This may sound barbarian, but it is still true even today. Men will play with 'slutty' women, but when it comes down to settling down, they want the untouched woman. The problem though is you may not realize that you are actually a prize among men until you leave college. Why? Because college men are not thinking about marriage; they want to have fun and party. A woman who is a virgin may be considered to hard to get for his sexual tastes. So he may go over to a sluttier girl and ask her out. He does not really want this type of girl; after he has sex with her, he will toss her like a piece of garbage and go to the next girl. But when it comes time after college to settle down guess who he will prefer? You, a virgin. In conclusion, the wrong type of man may be intimidated by your virginity, but the right man will love it, and will WANT to wait for you. It is indeed not wrong to be a virgin, no matter what others say. Not only are you eliminating your risk for STDs and pregnancy, but you are also ensuring your first time will be more special. As a gal with sexual experience, nothing will compare to the first time. One more thing to keep in mind the next time you feel 'guilty' about being a virgin. How many porn stars, Playboy models, etc. have husbands? Very few. How many average-looking more 'virtuous' church women have husbands? Quite a few.
