StephanieS.ParticipantBlack history month is always a big deal but nobody seems to really pay any attention to womens history month. Historically speaking, women have been oppressed longer than black people have been. (Black oppression came about around the colonization era and womens oppression has been happening everysince there were women). Does anyone have any thoughts as to why this could be?User Detail :

DaneRParticipantBesides black history month the Smithsonian, the source I'm gonna use, has 4 other history or "heritage" months as they call them, "In honor of our nation's richly diverse cultural heritage, the Smithsonian celebrates five heritage months each year". These are, American- indian heritage month, women's history month, Asian-pacific islander history month, and black history month. heres a link http://www.smithsonianeducation.org/heritage_month/ See women's history is not the only forgotten month. None of them should be, it is important to know where we came from, but why is there not a "white" history month, or "european-american" history month, and so on? Why is that we are forced, in high school, to listen to the principal read from MLK's "I have a dream speech, or the bill of rights orUser Detail :

BrittanyParticipantDoes it matter who was oppressed longer because if you ask me both months should have more emphasis put on them..And honestly women have not been oppressed longer than Black people because we are still oppressed it may not be systematially, but culturally and financially we are. For instance why is Black history month the shortest month of the year?User Detail :
