I think that for a lot of people it is just that they want to make people pay attention to them, and not necessarily because of insecurity. That's not the only reason though. I have a very loud stereo system because I like to listen to it. I like feeling the bass hit and vibrate my whole car. I like to play all sorts of music really loud, whether anyone is around to be annoyed or not.
