JaclynMemberMany of the Jewsish girls and women I have worked with and gone to school with come off as self-absorbed and materialistic. Most of them are very stuck-up and are interested only in themselves and other Jews. What is it about their upbringing and/or religion that makes them, to me, such awful people?

Robert L.MemberI sincerely believe the attitude you describe is one of economic status and not of religious identification. I am Jewish, and while I know of many Jewish women who fit your description, I also know of many Christian ones who do. My feeling is that people of lower socioeconomic status are less likely to feel arrogant.

Elizabeth25318MemberI think that while you may indeed have had bad experiences with Jewish women, you might also be talking about a few arrogant individuals who happen to be Jewish, and it is their personality that makes them this way, not their religion. There is a distinct group of New York-New Jersey women who are especially materialistic and obnoxious – but this is because they are from certain towns or regions. For example, there are a few towns on Long Island that are horrible in this sense, but their residents are a mixture of religions. I am from one of the most notorious of these towns, and can tell you that it’s not religion that makes its inhabitants so unbearable. You would be surprised at how many of your favorite celebrities and most respected role models are Jewish. This may help you realize that the people you have come into contact with are not indicative of millions of people, and that it is always a bad idea to stereotype anyone.
