AlmaParticipantWhy do so many Americans think the word ‘no’ should never apply to them? When the answer to a question (usually a request) isn’t what they want to hear, why does everything have to be ‘challenged?’

Danielle27240ParticipantBecause unless you fight for what you want, often times you won’t get it. People challenge when someone says ‘no’ because many people ALWAYS say ‘no’ the first time they’re asked, but will eventually give in.

MichaelParticipantControl. I find most Americans are self-righteous, presumptuous, self-centered and have control issues. Rarely do I see this in anyone of foreign origin, except perhaps from the core of European countries. However, this is probably what has driven these countries and ours to become as financially and technologically successful as they have. Despite my tendency to be cynical, I find most things tend to end up balancing out ‘Every tool is a weapon if you hold it right.’ – Ani Difranco, ‘My I.Q.’

ShirleyAveryParticipantFor the last 8 years, we’ve had an idiot for a conservative president (I never voted for Bush). His arrogance and American ethnocentrism does not apply to all US citizens. Some of us think he’s been an embarassment to our country. As far as he’s concerned, it’s the golden rule: he who has the gold, rules. Just Curious

DotParticipantAs a government employee you are representing a far too often bogged down bureaucracy that seems to force citizens to jump through hoops for no good reason. It’s not that all Americans can’t take ‘no’ for an answer, it’s that you see only the most angry end of society because you are likely the messenger for an ineffective agency. I bet in your personal life you don’t find people so disagreeable. Most of us couldn’t hack facing the public as the representative of a messed up federal office of any kind.
