I was was wondering if there is anyone who could give me some insight as to why certain Buddhist sects such as those found in the Mahayana schools, deem it nessesary to revere Buddha as a Super human being, and also why they feel that it is nessesary to worship bodisatta’s and pray to them for protection and guidance. Before Buddha died he told his followers to be lamplights unto themselves and he stressed detachment from all worldy and heavenly things, including himself. There fore would’nt it be a contradiction to worship him.
