What is it with teenagers not being able to behave in a public place, be it the train (jumping around and making noise), the theater (trying to see who can be the last to clap when applause for a song is over) or a store (making fun of all the merchandise)? Is the peer pressure to act cool and daring that strong now?

I admit I can get a little rowdy in public at times, even though I’m pretty much your age. Basically, me and my friends are a bunch of goofballs and we like to have fun. Part of that is making fun where there is no fun, such as on buses and trains, in the store or on any old boring sidewalk of this city. For instance, I’m a big lug but am somewhat acrobatic, so I like to climb on stuff (poles, rails, roofs, walls, etc.) and monkey around while acting like a dork. I have nobody to impress and enjoy stuff like that. However, I’ll never disrespect, harass or intentionally annoy anybody (although I’m certain unintentional annoyance occurs frequently), and I’ll usually chastise anybody around me who’s doing that. People who do that are immature nitwits who don’t know what ‘respect’ is.

Not all teenagers act out in public, or act in a very obnoxious manner. I act very maturely for a teen and have acted so since I could remember. I’m very well-behaved and act responsibly. So please understand where I’m coming from when someone stereotypes me based on my age or teenage appearence. What I can’t seem to understand is that you were a teen not too long ago, but you’re no better than the older generation. Age is nothing but a number and not the key factor in behavior. Those teens you’re talking about probably weren’t raised right. I was.

Last night I went to the movies with a friend. Usually I am very hyper, obnoxious and rude while there, but last night I was not. A group of girls sitting in front of us were as loud as possible, and I asked them nicely to be quiet. One yelled at me to shut up because the movie hadn’t started. I thought it was very rude. Once the movie started, they started up again, and a lady started to cuss them out. They finally shut up.

I don’t know why we act rude. I think it’s for attention, especially when guys our age are there. But until I watched the same things I do done by other people, I didn’t notice how stupid I made myself look, and how rude I am. I have changed, and I will never be disrespectful in a movie theater again.

i am 18 years old and a sophmore in college. i am intelligent, responsible, well mannered, and like to be in mosh pits at punk concerts. i admit, that i can be obnoxious when i am with certain people, but i never realize it untill after the fact. you are just having complete uninhibited fun. when was the last time you jumped in a public fountin at 2 o’clock in the morning? You know, we don’t get to do that stuff for very long, so please let us do it now. we aren’t hurting anybody. what i think that people find the most obnoxious, is when teenagers will talk to random people they don’t know and ask the dumbest questions. some are just trying to get a rise out of you and others may just be trying to brighten up you day. and like the last person said, its not all of us. just some. so relax and have some fun.

It’s not that we’re really trying to be annoying, or to impress anyone in general. It’s just fun. If we make fun of products in stores, they’re probably really stupid. Or, someone might, God forbid, be trying to get a laugh out of their friends. Next time you see some teenagers, don’t see them as annoying, see them as entertaining. And if you at 24 could not answer this question, you must have had quite the exciting teen years.

The way I see it is it’s fun to cut lose. To yell in stores, swear in public and, my favorite, laughing as loud as possible at the lamest jokes at the movies. Day in and day out I hear ‘act your age’ over and over, like a broken record. So I supose it’s my way to rebel. It’s not really peer pressure, it’s something we just do.

and i can see how some teenagers can be annoying. some of them are and they know it. i’m not going to lie though and say i dont make of the merchandise in the stores though, because some of it is pretty bad. Some teenagers just seem to find joy in acting obnoxious and making fools of themselves. what annoys me is when a teenager thinks that i am completely out of touch with modern times and mistakes me for some 40 year old woman (which i dont even look that old) and thinks i am out of touch with ‘modern’ style…

I dont think that when teenagers act crazy it isnt to look cool or anything. This is just me but I dont want to be one of those people who say I wish that I could have lived my life to the fullest, I think that i grew up to fast. I laugh when people do stupid stuff like that in public. i think its just having fun and unless its hurting someone its harmless. ive seen people who can be the most mature people but when they are with their friends having fun they act crazy. Maybe for other people its peer pressure but for me its letting loose because I grew up in a very strict family and when I had the oppurtunity to go and be wild it was just so cool to me that I could do that.

In a nutshell…Kids have to have fun, live a little, and this is how we do things. Think back to the time you were a teen and I bet you acted the same way.

its the thrill of being without supervision, seeing how much you can get away with. but in my case(s) i didnt do it to annoy other people, i did stuff to make people laugh, and most of all to make myself laugh. what i did was really no harm to anybody

In defense to my fellow teenagers I don’t think it’s that we don’t know how to act but we just like to have fun. Although people have told me that I take matters too seriously. I really think that it is just a phase w/ the ‘silliness’ or ‘immaturity ‘ of teenagers;they will grow out of it! Don’t U remember when U were a teen?

I don’t think we, teenagers, are all that rude. Maybe it’s the ones I grew up with, but we all know how to have fun without getting out of hand. Of course, there’s always that one person that makes the whole group look bad, but it’s all in fun. I just went to the movies the other night and it was full of teenagers and everybody in there was able to have a good time without anyone acting retarded and rediculous. But those that do are just having fun while they can. Seizing the day!!

Teenagers are misunderstood and they do stupid shit sometimes to entertain themselves. I know when I was a teen I did stupid shit too.
