As a recent college grad, I have been substitute teaching as a way of feeling out the climates and values of different school districts while gaining career experience. I don't get called very often, though, so I am making very little money at it. A nearby district is going through a teacher's strike, so I know I could have steady work there for several weeks if I add my name to their sub list. Ethically I lean towards solidarity with my fellow educators; but a girl's gotta eat. Am I an opportunistic scab if I sub there?
