Western society, in particular American society, teaches us to prize our individuality. Though I have deep spiritual beliefs that include reincarnation, I’ve found that in the past few years, I’ve learned I have a strong fear of death. What I fear is the loss of this self, this identity, this personality and all its memories. Even if I reincarnate, I will have no memory of having been this particular person – because if I’ve reincarnated before, I sure don’t remember any of those details. And if I go to another place or plane, and fuse my existence with a higher power, again I lose my individual self. Right now, I’m wrestling with this concept, and find it frightening.
