Unfortunately, too many people are very ignorant about transsexualism. In her post, Amanda labels transgendered people as ‘sexually confused.’ This is simply not the case. Medical research has provided more and more evidence that the condition is the result of a birth defect. Basically, prenatal hormonal abnormalities cause the brain to develop the structure of the opposite sex from the rest of the body. The result is literally a female brain in a male body (or vice versa). To read some of this research, look here: http://www.symposion.com/ijt/ijtc0106.htm
The bathroom issue is always the biggest issue transgendered people face when transitioning in the workplace. I don’t know what the concern is. If it is fear of sexual assault, it should be noted that these individuals have probably been taking cross-gender hormone treatments for a year or more. Any male sex drive they may have had will like have long since vanished. And if it is concern over being ‘checked-out’ in the ladies room, remember that about 1 in 10 women are lesbians, anyway. You can’t very well ban them from the restrooms, can you?
