It’s a combination of sympathy and disgust. I don’t mean that I’m disgusted by the way the person looks, I mean, that the sight of a fat person brings my own fear of being fat to light. I have had problems with my own weight in the past as well and worked very hard to trim down, and the thought of going back to what I was is terrifying. In short, my reactions to fat people have nothing to do with them and everything to do with me.
