    These cracks may be seen as discolorations, or patches on the tongue, if it is what I think the author is asking. It is often called ‘geographic tongue’. I have such a tongue. It causes weird patches and sometime fissures in the tongue as a result of the papilla wearing off. There is no known treatment, or specific cause. But from my experience it is exacerbated by spicey and acidic foods or drinks. The bare spots can be very sensitive and hurt if I’ve eaten or drank something spicey or acidic. I notice that lemonade is the worst for me.
