Many of these conflicts are generations old based on very bloody clan/ethnic/religious conflicts. These feuds have become almost tradition amongst certain groups. In this situation hatred toward each other is almost reflexive because that is all they know. The US is fortunate in that because of our size immigrant groups normally in conflict can spread out and get away from each other. Generations pass without violence and people begin to heal and forget. European population centers are largely fixed so these groups are trapped together in a cycle of violence and hatred.
