StaceyParticipantIt’s nice to see that you’re taking the time to at least find out what we believe. Yes, there is quite a bit of misinformation out there. The main thing to know is that all of our beliefs are based on the Bible, not the traditions of man. I’ll try to be brief. We believe:
*In God and that He created all things and that the Bible is God’s Word and is inspired by God. Psalm 104:24, 2 Timothy 3:16,17
*God is the only true God, and we strive to speak about him and his loving provisions to others. John 17:3 (When we visit you, we feel we are carrying out what God requires of us as stated in Matthew 24:14)
*In Jesus (some people think we don’t), but that he is God’s son and not part of a Trinity (John 17:3); we also believe it is because of his sacrifice that obedient humans have a hope for everlasting life (Matthew 20:28)
* Mankind needed Jesus’ sacrifice as a ransom for the sinful nature we inherited from Adam and Eve (Hebrews 9:25-28, Romans 5:12)
* The only hope for mankind and our problems is God’s Kingdom; in the future, this Kingdom will rid the world of imperfect human governments and bring about a righteous world (Daniel 2:44). This belief is commonly recited when people say the Our Father prayer as read at Matthew 6:9-15: Our father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven… That prayer indicates God’s kingdom will come to earth, just as it is in heaven.
*Jesus will rule this kingdom in conjunction with a number of spirit-anointed Christians. Daniel 7:13,14; 1 Cor. 15:40-53(We do not believe in good people going to heaven and bad going to hell.)
*God’s original purpose for mankind was to live in perfect conditions and to be populate the earth, and this purpose will be fulfilled. Genesis 1:28, Isaiah 55:11
*That we are currently living in the last days of this system of things and we will soon seen the destruction of the present world; those who survive this destruction will live in a cleansed earth. 2 Tim 3:1-5, Revelation 21:3,4
I hope this gives you enough information. We do have other beliefs, but this list is the main information. I know there are misconceptions about Jehovah’s Witnesses, and if there is anything specific you’d like to know, please email me.

StaceyParticipantPart of your parents raising you as a Witness should have involved giving you the opportunity to think for yourself. As you know, free choice is a gift from Jehovah. The best way to tell them is to be up front. Explain your feelings and the reasons for your choice. (Are you baptized? And if so, have you had a change in heart?) It is better to tell them now than to have them find out some other way or for some other reason. Keep in mind, they have brought you up based on their beliefs, which includes a responsibility to inculcate the truth into you. They may feel they have failed you. In the end, just make sure you are making this decision not out of a momentary feeling but out of your heart. That’s what Jehovah looks at. Adolescence is a time when we all question most things in our life. In the meantime, I’m worried that you wrote you haven’t been getting straight answers to questions. If you feel your parents aren’t being straight with you, perhaps you could talk with someone in your congregation who might be comfortable answering some of those questions. And, if you’d like, I would be willing to answer any that you have.
