Sara S.MemberI don’t consider myself a Gothic person. I’m more of a Medievalist, but am usually identified as “a goth” by many people at the college I attend. There are about 10 of us at this very small college (about 500 students) who don’t really fit anywhere else. We are a tightly knit group, but the only thing we really all have in common is the fact that we are nonconformists to some degree. Some of us look like the stereotypical “goth” person. Most of us don’t.
The main problem we’ve had to face has been rumors. There have been rumors that our group of friends is a Satanic cult, which is ridiculous, since we range from atheist to Southern Baptist, to Catholic, Wiccan, Pentacostal, Mormon and Agnostic. But such rumors spread quickly, especially in the small-town South. We have also been joked about in the school paper several times, things like suggesting cutting down campus trees to ward off the “vampire population.” We never take it too seriously.
