I was a musician many years ago and most of us tend to be territorial. But the more I got into music (or maybe the older I got), the less it mattered to me who was making it. But sometimes a singer will come along who seems to make a mockery of R&B–like Michael Bolton. Yet, when I ‘discovered’ Teena Marie, I bought all the albums she had made at the time. With me, talent wins out. If a person has it, whether they are singing R&B or Pop, I’ll listen and enjoy.
