Roberta29556ParticipantI read a story earlier today, in a doctor’s waiting room. The story was a first-hand account by a Muslim woman who with her family immigrated to the U.S. from the Middle East. Her father had arranged a marriage for her in her native country, but she found herself unable to go through with the match. In order to avoid the marriage, she had to hide from her family for 4 years. Why? Because in refusing to marry a Muslim she had ‘disgraced’ her family and it is a Muslim country to kill any woman who does so. I suspect most Muslim families would respond in much the same way to any Muslim woman who married a non-Muslim. The woman later converted to Christianity and relations with her family are still strained. Several of her closest relatives refuse even to speak to her.
