    The reality is that whites are still the overwhelming majority in this country, and the racial ‘standard.’ Minorities are minorities, by definition. There’s no such thing as becoming ‘more and more the majority’ — you are either the majority or you’re not. Blacks and hispanics may be about 25% of the country, but that still leaves the nation roughly 75% white, which is still overwhelming (consider: 3 out of 4). When you are the standard, then things or people that are non-standard have to be denoted. It’s like printer paper… colors are optional.
