I am Hispanic and would never think of asking people to back up out of my way unless I had car problems. I think what you ran into was not a Hispanic thing as much as a young person thing; you did state these were young people. It seems to me a lot of young people have not yet learned what is appropriate and what is not. I think if you start looking at the age of the person instead of the color, you will see I am right.
