Are you sure you’re not talking about my old supervisor? He was exactly the same. Ex-military, homophobic, sadistic, you name it. When one of my colleagues asked him for a reference, he gave one with all negative comments. Nothing positive at all. He supervised about 8 of us and we organised a team meeting where we confronted him and his paranoia went through the roof. It was a very strange atmosphere. He got very angry with a colleague of mine for taking an extended morning tea one day (20 minutes) at a time when people were working massive overtime… I put it down to the military background, not the age, although he was about 60.
