I tell them that Christmas is the occasion of a pagan harvest festival that was co-opted by early Christians to celebrate the birth of Christ. They could call it Starfish Day, or Beer Day, for all I care- it may be a religous festival for some, but it’s also a time for holidays and family, regardless of one’s religious beliefs. Is it wrong to observe the labor day holiday if you’re not a trade unionist? Or New Year’s Day if you use the Chinese calendar?
