OliveParticipantWhy assume racism on his part? Oversensitivity is the only answer I can think of.
What do I think of this? I think it was foul of his superiors to reprimand him. Our nation’s police officers are already terribly underpaid, underappreciated and overworked. Why heap more worries on them by requiring them to be hypersensitive to the tender feelings of the people they risk their lives every day to protect?

OliveParticipantWell, I’m not a nurse, but I’m studying to be one. I’m definitely attracted to policemen and firemen. Here’s why. First, the ones I’ve met have been more stable, intelligent, sensitive, interesting, and exciting than, say, your average artist or management guy. Second, they devote 8 hours of every day to helping people who have no one else to turn to. That kind of brave willingness to do heroic things for little pay and even less recognition inspires a lot of admiration in me.

OliveParticipantI agree with what you’re saying. What does ‘black pride’ mean to you? Strong men and women, days of remembrance, community bonding? What does ‘white pride’ mean to you? The Ku Klux Klan, skineads, Nazis? Yet many whites are proud of our heritage, proud of our color, proud of our strengths, without wishing to deny other races their right to happiness. I oppose any system which favors any race over any other for any reason besides merit. Affirmative action puts second-class surgeons, second-class teachers, and second-class airplane pilots on the job, merely because they appear black or brown. It’s not rational, and it’s not right. I want the best society, not the most ‘fair.’

OliveParticipantI’m not a police officer. But I’ve talked to quite a few of them and read some of their articles and books. Here’s what I think. The majority of cops don’t hate the poor for their poverty. They do, however, have a harder time when they work amongst them. Young people who grow up in poor families are less likely to join the tennis or football team. Their parents often have a hard time making rent, let alone paying for expensive equipment and team dues. These youths still need a peer group, however, so they turn to the drug dealers who hang out on the corner or the gangbangers who cruise the streets. To prove their worth, they have to act tough, get in fights, spray paint buildings, ditch school, and rebel against authority figures. The police officers who work their neighborhoods are constantly getting calls from local homeowners and shopkeepers who are sick of these arrogant teens blasting music, defacing stores, shoplifting, speeding, and loitering. The cops spend day after day corralling the youths, remaining calm in the face of their rudeness and disrespect, and loading them into their squad cars. On top of that, poverty brings extra violence from robberies, gangs, and domestic disputes. So these cops are in high state of danger and stress every time they work their beat. Compare them to the officers who work the middle-class neighborhoods. These cops spend their days cruising peaceful streets where people live much calmer and happier lives. They are much more likely to get called to parties that have gotten a little out of hand, petty disputes between neighbors, and stranded motorists. Jobs where people call them ‘Sir’ or ‘Ma’am’ and say ‘Thank you for coming.’ It’s easy to assume that police officers feel less than the rest of us, because they always seem so stoic and unemotional. But they are as human as we are, and their environments affect them as much as ours do us.

OliveParticipantI wouldn’t think any less of him. Unfortunately, society doesn’t often agree. Our culture has little support for males: it often teaches us that a man loses part of his masculinity when he is sexually victimized. Also, male rape is quite rare; almost unheard of. Both of these factors translate into much more shame for the male rape victim. Perhaps five of my female friends have confessed their rapes to me. All seemed justifiably sad and angry. Only one male friend confessed the same; he seemed more ashamed than anything else.

OliveParticipant1.) The surgeon can accidentally and permanently burn the end of your penis off. It has happened more than once. If he doesn’t, your penis (or your whole body) could still succumb to post-surgical infection. 2.) Thousands of nerves exist in your foreskin. Permanently numb post-surgery penis? You bet. 3.) Smegma, the substance produced by the penis and kept in place by the foreskin, has natural lubricants. It also has antimicrobials which can kill the AIDS virus. 4.) The sensitive glans of the hacked penis, missing its sheath, rubs against shorts, underwear, sheets, and pants all day. This means pain, irritation, and finally decreased feeling. 6.) Why in the world would you chop off a piece of the lovely and amazing body you were born with? Isn’t it glorious the way it is, whole and intact?
