Unlike your girlfriend and a large number of Christians who profess their belief in a loving God, I disagree with the concept of eternal damnation. My God is a God of unconditional love and grace. HeSheIt is neither judgmental nor vindictive. We were given the gift of free will, and let’s face it, we blow it as often as not. The only hell we will endure is that which we experience here as a result of making choices not in keeping with our highest good, the greatest truth, and the greatest love. When we finish with our bodies, our souls will return to our Creator in their purest form, and God will embrace us, regardless of the mess we may or may not have made with our temporal lives. Why would He do otherwise – to teach us a lesson? It was not our souls that made the mistakes; it was our imperfect human minds and selfish egos. So even those of us who make the decision (mistakenly, I believe) to deny the presence of God and declare themselves atheists are free to do that in this life, yet return to God’s boundless love when this life is over.
