Michael F.ParticipantThere are quite a few things that American Christians are silent about, but their silence about Hell does not mean it does not exist. About 2,000 years ago, Jesus himself spoke of Hell, though He did not call it by that name. In Matthew 13:47-50 he states: “Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish. When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away. This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
Again in Matthew 25:31-45, Jesus describes the day of judgment, where the good and evil are separated, the righteous (in God’s eyes) are to share the inheritance of heaven, while the evil are to be cast into an eternal fire.
Finally, in 2 Timothy 1:6-10: “God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels. He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the majesty of his power on the day he comes to be glorified in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed. This includes you, because you believed our testimony to you.”
In conclusion, Hell may not be mentioned by name, but the concept it represents is displayed clearly in the Bible. What is true 2,000 years ago holds true today.

Michael F.ParticipantThere is no reference stating what day we should worship. Traditionally, it has been Sunday, probably due to it being the day of Resurrection. However, the only command to worship on the Sabbath comes from the Mosaic Covenant. Acts 15:1-35 states that Gentile believers need not follow this Covenant, but need only abstain from some practices that would be considered offensive to the Jews. Romans 7:1-6 notes that we have died to the Law, that we might be joined to another, specifically Christ. Galatians 3:15-29 notes Law to be our tutor to lead to Christ by faith, and that since faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.

Michael F.ParticipantYou will get mixed answers from other Christians. Why they do not agree on this is a much longer subject than I would prefer to go into. I also believe that you are bound for Hell if you die without repenting.
You may get a mixed spectrum of answers, all from people who do not have the power to condemn you to Hell. If you want an answer from Jesus Himself, have your girlfriend show you passages in the Bible like Matthew 25:31-46.

Michael F.ParticipantThere is a need to make some rather tough statements. Regardless of your reaction to these statements, please read the book previously recommended.
1) Christ is the only way. There are other religions, and some may recognize the same God we do, while others recognize poor imitations of God. However, none recognize Christ, who promises to be the only way to salvation (See John 10) 2) Despite what some denominations may say regarding the subject, people who practice homosexuality and do not repent have an eternal destination of Hell reserved for them. Progressing through the Bible, Leviticus 20:13 lists the homosexual act as deserving of death. Romans 1:18-27 shows those who practice such things have been “given over in the sinful desires of their heart to sexual impurity…” Most notably, 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 provides a list of lifestyles whose pursuing guarantees non-acceptance into heaven. This statement needs to be taken seriously. Homosexuality is a sin.

Michael F.ParticipantI used to deal with the question of why do we not follow the Law. I looked at Galatians, a letter written to a church struggling with Jews trying to convince the church to follow Jewish laws and customs. In Galatians 3:15-25 the law is described as a tutor to lead to Christ, and we are no longer under a tutor. The other reference comes from Acts 15:24-29. This is a letter written to the Gentile churches advising them of what Jewish traditions they needed to follow in order to not offend them. It is true that the Law demands death for many of the immoral acts that occur nowadays. In my reading and experience, Jesus is asking us to hate the sin but love the sinner. This means to address the issue of homosexuality being a sin, but still reach out to them, speaking of Jesus as a Savior.
