    It has more to do with culture, I believe. Black women were not generally encouraged to stay at home and be supported by their husbands; often, they were the ones forced to provide for the home. It was the black woman who was able to break into the lines of opportunity in order to support her household – whereas the black male was constantly broken by the force of the white male power structure.
