Diversity helps break down barriers. In my workplace, I work around women, men, Caucasian, black, Hispanic, Asian, etc. All of this adds up to learning more about people and cultures. How does that relate to work? It means I have learned not to exclude anyone when seeking help or answers to a work problem. Learning to utilize all the resources around me makes me more efficient. The obvious social improvements go without saying.
