I feel this is an oversimplified view. I am a family solicitor (lawyer), and while I have never had to deal with a mother who has killed her children, I have dealt with cases of abuse, and also with people (mainly women) who have suffered from domestic violence. It’s very easy to say, ‘All she had to do was leave,’ but in a violent or abusive situation, it’s never that simple. She may well have problems of low self-esteem (‘He loves me, he wouldn’t hit me/force me to do things I don’t want to do for no reason, it must be my fault’) and feel there is no alternative than to stay/do as he wants. Also, there may be an element of trying to save the children from having bad things happen to them (not logical, but it does happen)
