Maybe the particular people you work with are just rude. Their snide remarks and jokes probably had more to do with the class of people you work with than their race. I’ve seen the type of behavior you describe in people of many different ethnic backgrounds. In those cases it was a sign of imaturity and just plain bad manners on their part.
