I agree with Angel, however I would have to disagree with her on one point. I attend a Catholic church in KCMO,that is growing like hotcakes because they encourage diversity—It is an African-American church that is open and welcoming to everyone…and the members dress to the nines! So I guess culture plays a bigger part in how people dress than religion does…more important is the beauty of the souls of black people…just makes me want to cry with joy! What a treasure black people have to offer to those who open their minds and hearts to all God’s Family.

Based on my experience and efforts to learn more about people who are Black…I can speak for one white person in America…me…I think Black people want the same things I want out of life… that is: optimum health, a good education,a nice home, decent clothes to wear, a functional family, a job that pays a decent living wage, friends, respect from our children, a community where people watch out for each other, the unconditional love of our parents, and religious freedom. The only difference I see is the color of our skin which really doesn’t matter to me. I believe that Africa was the cradle of civilization…so that means we are all connected…and I wouldn’t have it any other way. The Blacks that I have met have enriched my life. My church family gives me all the love I give to them. I stepped out of my comfort zone when I was five years old , and I have never regretted it.

It is stereotypical thinking to suggest that ‘all’ black people like fried chicken…just as it would be stereotypical to suggest that ‘all’ Italian people like pasta, or ‘all’ white people like turkey and dressing for Thanksgiving…all people of all colors have their own personal preferences in food…it has nothing to do with skin color. The restaurant could have celebrated Black History Month by offering ‘ everyone’ a 10% discount on their order. Or they could have put up a poster of famous Black leaders, inventors, poets, musicians…etc.
