My mother is Vietnamese, and some of her friends work in the nail salon business. When I asked her why this is so prevalent, she said it is a way to make a living without having to speak a lot of English, since many of these nail salon owners are recent immigrants who know very little English.

Also, to pronounce the most common Vietnamese last name (Nguyen) semi-accurately, you can say “win”. But, that’s semi-accurate – Vietnamese is an extremely tonal language.
