    Many people have much, perhaps too much,of their identity tied up in their religion. ‘I pray, therefore I am.’ When someone of another faith implies that there might be more than one way to believe, the true believers sees the other faith as a threat to his or her identity. These people also see life as black and white and can deal with shades of grey, so they see ‘different’ as equalling ‘wrong.’ Many people have trouble dealing with the concept that two people can disagree, yet both be right (or wrong). Also, many religious conflictsstarted out as ethnic or economic conflicts. The Irish/English conflicts predate the Reformation; their differing religion gives them one more thing to hate.
