KateMemberI usually just laugh-and shake my head, which sends the message thanks but no thanks. It’s not really flattering since I’ve seen toothless grandmas get ‘holla’d at’ too, but I’ve heard some funny lines (‘Why go home to a kittycat when you can play with a tiger?’ when I said i was going home to my husband)It’s generally playful, but, in my experience, sometimes you have to be ‘bitchy’ to someone who is seriously invading your space; ie: trying to follow you home. My dad’s wife was wondering why white men are ‘mutes’ here in the states, because in her part of Latin America men were very demonstrative, while the women walked by looking straight ahead. I use the past tense because I have noticed that in the past ten years or so Latino guys have really downscaled the verbal communications to women they don’t know.
