Southern wives who dote on their husbands should not be such a surprise. My mother’s side of the family hails from South Carolina and they consider themselves the furthest thing from ‘feminists.’ They think such women are more likely to be Northerners and more secular than Southern women, who tend to be more religious and traditional. This kind of treatment stems more from deference and respect than it does from patronizing their men.
