Sigh. This question was written three years ago and yet is still relevant. Firstly, US has not sided unilaterally with Israel. Billions of dollars in aid have been given to the ‘Palestinians’ (most of which had straight into the personal bank accounts of people like Arafat). Every time something happens, Israel gets pressured to return to the negotiating table. American press demonizes Israeli retribution to the people who murder her citizens, yet the murderer himself/herself gets a full multipage write-up and gets counted as one of the ‘victims’ of the bombing in question. Secondly, Israel is a democracy. None of the other countries in the area is (until now, that we are trying to get the new Iraq off the ground.) The US simply wants to spread democracy – we know it’s good for business! Thirdly, there never was a country called ‘Palestine.’ For the US to support ‘Palestinian’ causes over Israel makes less sense than supporting the territorial claims of Native Americans who actually do have a heritage that is thousands of years old. Fourth, Israel does not want to kill Arabs. Israel is full of people trying to work out how to ‘make peace.’ Yet in the ‘Palestinian’ territories (and in other Arab countries) their version of day camp involves learning how to shoot semiautomatic weapons and the values of martyrdom. (Yes, there is real evidence of this.) One wants to empathise with the ‘Palestinian’ people referred to as ‘refugees,’ but come on. Israel has absorbed many hundreds of thousands Jews over the course of its few years of existence, from Europe after WWII, from all of the Arab countries after they (the countries) expelled them (the Jews) because of Israel’s existence, and from the former Soviet Union and Ethiopia. Are you telling me that some thirty-odd Arab and/or Muslim nations around the world cannot absorb the ‘refugees’ from a small strip of land about the size of New Jersey? Refugees, I may add, who only ran away because THEIR OWN LEADERS said to? (Israel had announced ‘stay in your homes – we don’t want to kill you’ and those who did became citizens. The Grand Mufti propagated the story that everyone who would stay would die.) Thus, the only rational position is to support Israel.
