The Christmas cracker is a cardboard cylinder (like a paper-towel tube but shorter) filled with confetti, a toy of some sort (or candy, and depending on the price/quality it is usually cheap and plastic), and a paper hat. It is wrapped in bright wrapping paper and pulled open (making a popping sound similiar to a New Year’s plastic confetti-filled champagne bottle). These are often found on one’s plate at Christmas dinner, and you are to wear the hat during the meal.
